72nd Spruce Lore Project

The project team understands that an integral part of this process is to incorporate “context sensitive” design principles.  We are committed to:

  • April 25th, 2007 Workshop
Communicating with all stakeholders early and continuously, and openly and honestly.
  • Seeking to understand the community before beginning design.
  • Tailoring the public participation process to the project and community.
  • Making efficient and effective use of resources (time and budgets) of all involved parties.
  • Using a range of tools for communication.
  • Listening to and acknowledging concerns and ideas.
  • Providing input on how the public input is reflected in the design decisions.

Based on preliminary interviews with a range of the stakeholders and a review of existing projects in the area, some of the major issues associated with this roadway improvement project include (not in any prescribed order):

  • Impacts to existing vegetation
  • Potential loss of private property
  • Impacts to esthetics and quality of neighborhood
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Traffic speeds
  • Width of improvements including travel lanes, shoulders and buffers
  • Need for safe walkways and bike paths
  • Connectivity - necessary to reduce traffic volumes on all streets in the area
  • Connectivity - would improve emergency response times
  • Connectivity - existing lack of connectivity enhances the neighborhood aesthetics and quality
  • Completing the grid will increase traffic and speeds
  • Traffic calming  to slow speeds
  • Poor condition of roads
  • Maintenance
  • Incorporate context sensitive solutions
  • Access to Abbott Loop and Lake Otis
  • Drainage
  • Cut through traffic
