Municipality of Anchorage (MOA), Project Management and Engineering Department (PM&E) is managing the 80th Improvement project. The street is currently two-lane, strip paved, has inadequate shoulders, and lacks proper drainage, lighting, and pedestrian facilities.
The overall goals of this project are to:
- Improve vehicular and pedestrian safety.
- Implement traffic calming measures to discourage speeding.
- Reduce maintenance costs.
- Strengthen the local transportation network by providing a more reliable link between the adjacent neighborhoods and Lake Otis Parkway and Abbott Loop Road.
- Balance diverse stakeholder’s needs.
- Improve the road to current Municipal Collector Standards.
upgrade is also the first step in the process to transfer right-of-way ownership from the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (ADOT&PF) to the MOA. Currently, ADOT&PF maintains the road in the summer and the MOA during the winter.
Engineering Group, LLC is providing professional engineering and design services for the project. The first phase of the project is to complete a Design Study Report (DSR). Key steps in the Design Study process include:
- Work with stakeholders to identify project opportunities and constraints, and define the problems to be solved with this project.
- Establish project evaluation criteria to help refine the development of alternatives.
- Develop draft conceptual design alternatives.
- Evaluate alternatives and select a Preferred Alternative.
